How to create a WinPE bootable media with AOMEI FastRecovery

How to recover data from a system-crashed computer? You can create a WinPE bootable media of AOMEI FastRecovery, then boot the crashed computer from WinPE media to scan and recover data.

Please run AOMEI FastRecovery and register the program because it is a paid feature to create WinPE bootable media.

Then, click the "Crashed PC Recovery" button to create WinPE bootable media according to your needs and click "Create".

Make Bootable Media

There are three ways available to create a bootable media based on Windows PE.
USB Boot Device: To create a bootable USB Device.
Export ISO File: Use this method to make a bootable ISO file. After the ISO is exported, you need to burn it with a third-party burning program. Or, you can use the ISO to boot some virtual machines or burn it to other devices.
Burn to CD/DVD: To create a bootable CD/DVD.
Here we take USB Boot Device for example.

Tips: "Add Drivers" allows you to manually add additional and necessary drivers into the bootable disk so that more devices will be available after you boot into WinPE.

When you create the bootable media (USB/CD/DVD) on a working computer, you need to insert the media into the crashed computer, then boot the computer into BISO to set the media to boot.

How to Set Boot from the USB Rescue Media on Windows Computer?

By default, most computers are set to boot from the hard drive. When using a USB or CD/DVD for booting, you need to adjust the boot priority: set USB or CD/DVD as the priority boot option. Then, the computer will load the WinPE system on the USB or optical disc to boot.
Let's take an ASUS motherboard as an example to set up booting from USB in two ways.
For other motherboard models, you can refer to the relevant motherboard instructions to set the boot items.

Enter fast boot menu by using hotkey

Most of motherboards allows to using a hotkey to enter the fast Boot Menu, then you can quickly select a boot device to set the first boot device temporarily. This method does not enter the BIOS to modify the boot sequence, so it will still boot from the previously set device (usually the hard disk) when the computer boots next time.
The hotkeys to enter the fastboot menu vary from one brand of motherboard to another. For example:
ASUS motherboard: F8
Lenovo motherboards: F12
Dell motherboard: F12
HP motherboard: F9
Note that some models may require you to hold down the Fn key and then press the boot hotkey to enter the fast boot menu.
Here are the exact steps for the ASUS motherboard fast boot menu:
Step 1: Connect the bootable USB drive, press the Power button on your computer.
Step 2: During computer startup, when the boot brand or motherboard logo appears, immediately press F8. If the operation is successful, you will be presented with a quick start menu that lists the available startup options.
Step 3: Use the arrow keys on your keyboard, select the USB and press Enter. The computer will immediately restart and boot from the USB drive.

Boot into BIOS to set boot sequence

You can boot the computer into BIOS configuration, then set USB as the priority boot option under boot sequence. The method will keep using USB as the priority boot option, so when you keep the boot media in the USB port, the system will always boot from the USB device every time.
Generally, different brands of motherboards need to press different hotkeys to enter the BIOS. the following are the BIOS entry hotkeys for some common motherboard brands:
ASUS motherboards: Del, F2
Lenovo motherboards: F2, Fn + F2
Dell motherboards: F2, Fn + F2
HP motherboard: F10, Fn + F10
You can Google your motherboard brand and version to find out what the shortcut key is, or contact the computer manufacturer directly.
For ASUS computer:
Step 1: Connect the bootable USB drive, press the Power button on your computer.
Step 2: During computer startup, when the boot brand or motherboard logo appears, immediately press Del or F2 key (depending on the company that created your version of BIOS, a menu may appear) to enter BIOS Setup, the setup utility page will appear.
Step 3: After entering the BIOS configuration, use the cursor to click [Advanced Mode] that the screen displayed.

UEFI Bios

Step 4: Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, select the [Boot] tab. All available system devices will be displayed, then move USB to be first in the boot sequence.
Tips: If you cannot find USB or Removable Devices among the device options, your BIOS may list it under Hard Drive Devices. In that case, you'll need to: Move Hard Drive Devices to the top; Expand to show all hard drive device options; and Move the USB device to the top of that hard drive list.

Boot Sequence

Step 5: Save the changes and then exit the BIOS Setup. The computer will reboot using the new settings, directly booting from your USB drive.
After that, if you need to boot from Hard Drive, you can directly unplug the USB flash drive, the BIOS will move to the next device in the boot sequence to boot. Or, you can re-change the Hard Drive as the first boot option under BIOS.
