About transferring OS to new hard drive in Windows 7

Sometimes, you may want to clone OS (operating system) from the old hard drive to a lager new one spontaneously. Perhaps, it is personal reason or system's need. No matter which purpose you come from, it is always a waste of time to backup all the data or reinstall the OS. This brings you into a difficult circumstance. No.2: "Sector-by-Sector Copy"

It copies all sectors of the drive to another disk no matter whether it is used or not. During the process, you cannot adjust the size of drive, but you can change the location in the destination disk. The new hard drive's size is entirely equal to the original one. Similarly, the free space in target hard drive must be equal or larger than the occupied space in original partition. By this way, you can copy entire OS partition to new hard drive.

Steps to copy OS to new hard drive in Windows 7

Let me show you a case to clone OS to new hard drive with this free clone software. Before you do all the operations below, please clearly understand two things firstly. One is that only an unallocated space can be selected as the destination space and it must be equal or larger than the used space of source partition. The other is OS cloning is operated under PreOS Mode, so reboot is needed.

Step 1: Free download AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition and start it. You will see the main interface, right click system drive C and choose "Copy Partition".
