User case: I accidentally deleted boot.bcd file in Windows 10

I accidentally deleted the bcd file for Windows 10. As the title says, I deleted the bcd boot loader for Windows 10 by mistake using Easy BCD, and when I tried to restart the PC it could not boot and got the error and I don't have any other device to create USB media for Windows 10.

- Question from Super User

Boot Configuration Data (BCD) files store information about boot applications and their settings, replacing the older Boot.ini. The location of the BCD file varies by boot mode: for UEFI systems, it’s found at /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/BCD on the EFI system partition, while for BIOS systems, it’s located at /boot/BCD on the active partition. If the BCD file is deleted or damaged, you might encounter errors like 0xc0000034 or a message in Windows 10 stating, “The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.”

In addition to manually deleting BCD files with software or the bcdedit command, removing the boot partition will also delete the BCD files because they are stored there.

How to rebuild BCD in Windows 10?

In general, rebuilding BCD files is difficult and risky. Luckily, AOMEI Partition Assistant has a Boot Repair feature that easily fixes deleted, damaged, or missing BCD files. If your Windows 10 encounters any boot issue, you can quickly create a bootable drive with this tool to restore your PC.
