Five Types of Dynamic Volumes

Dynamic Volume was divided into 5 types of volumes including simple volume, striped volume, spanned volume, mirrored volume, and Raid-5 volume. All of volumes can be created by AOMEI Dynamic Disk Manager if they are supported by Windows. However, for the characters of volumes vary from volume to volume, I will enumerate the 5 types of volumes in turn.

● Simple volume is similar to basic volume without any limitation on size and quantity when it is created. It also can be extended no matter which is in volume or partition while is used as mirroring. Absolutely, some limitations still exist, such as it can’t support fault tolerant and I/O performance improving.
 
● Spanned volume can be created unless some allocated spaces are existed for multiple disks (2 disks at least), and can be extended randomly through unitizing the unallocated space on any disks. However, neither the fault-tolerance nor I/O is supported by spanned volume, so mirroring is.

● The created and extended condition of striped volume is the same as spanned volume. Compared with spanned volume, having I/O performance improving is as its top superiority.

● Mirrored volume can’t support I/O performance improving but fault tolerant. For creating it, only 2 disk having can be created. The highlights about it won’t be influenced at all when any one is destroyed for 2 disks. What’s more, in the case of one disk was damaged, which still can be replaced by another good one

● Raid-5 volume doesn’t only support fault tolerant but also I/O performance improving and won’t be affected if any disk is destroyed, which can be replaced by good one. However, when 2 disks or above are destroyed, we can’t read this-Raid 5 volume any more.
