Windows system C drive is occupied by a large amount of Dropbox folders and files? You can move Dropbox from C drive to D drive or another location to reclaim space on C drive.
“I have a Windows 11 PC with a 1TB internal HDD. It has two partitions: C and D. my Dropbox folder and files is 200GB and there is nearly no unusable space on C drive. My PC becomes slow and lagging. Can I move Dropbox application and its folder & files from C drive to D drive without losing data?”
Windows Copy and Paste function can cause boot files lost for transferring Dropbox from one drive to another. It’s recommended to use Dropbox Preferences to change Dropbox folder from C drive to a new drive. Follow the guide to complete the operation.
Step 1. Turn off all programs that are using your Dropbox files and folders.
Step 2. Run Dropbox, click Settings, and choose “Preferences”.
Step 3. In Dropbox desktop app preferences window, click “Sync” and click “Move” under “Dropbox Folder Location”.
Step 4. Choose the new target location for the Dropbox folder. Here is D drive.
Step 5. Wait for Dropbox to move the folders and files to the D drive. Then, click “OK”.
Step 6. Sign out and back in to the Dropbox desktop app to ensure that all of your preferences are moved as well.
Note: If you can’t access the Dropbox Preferences’, you can reinstall the Dropbox app and try again.
