Wanna increase partition size in Windows Server 2008? The free AOMEI Partition Assistant Lite allows you to increase partition size in Server 2008 (R2), 2012 (R2), 2016 and 2019 for free.
With more applications or programs being installed on the Windows Server 2008 partition, the effective space will become less and less. As a result, the operation speed of applications and windows performance would be decreased. So it is necessary to increase the partition size in Windows Server 2008 (R2). Especially when the system partition is on low disk space and slow down the whole PC performance, it is recommended to extend the boot partition as soon as possible in case that causes the OS crash and data loss.
To change partition size in Windows Server 2008, one of the methods is using Server native Disk Management. It provides the “Extend Volume” and “Shrink Volume” features to help users increase or decrease the partition size. But both of them are only available for NTFS partition. Besides, the “Extend Volume” feature only enables you to increase one partition size when it is followed by an adjacent unallocated space. And the “Shrink Volume” can only create an unallocated space behind it, and such space cannot be moved to other location.
So, if you want to extend Server 2008 partition size via Disk Management, such as extending C drive and there being C and D partitions on the disk, you have to delete D drive first to get a contiguous unallocated space for system volume.
Then, right-click on the C drive and select “Extend Volume”. Follow the pop-out “Extend Volume Wizard” to finish the rest operations.
Although you can enlarge partition in Server 2008 (R2) with the Disk Management, it requires you to delete an adjacent partition, and that will erase all data on the deleted partition. To do that more easily and flexibly, it is recommended to use the free Server partition manager: AOMEI Partition Assistant Lite. It is able to move unallocated space to make it adjacent to the partition you will extend. Download it and have a try. (Following demostration is based on there are C, E and unallocated space, and shows how to extend C with unallocated space. )
Note: If there is not unallocated space, please first shrink another partition to get one.
Step 1. Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant Lite. Right-click the E drive (in the middle of C drive and unallocated space) and select “Move Partition”.
Step 2. In the pop-out mini window, drag the slider to the right side to move it and click on “OK”.
Step 3. Then you can see the unallocated space is adjacent to and behind the C drive.
Step 4. Now, you can right-click the C drive and choose “Resize Partition”.
Step 5. In the window, drag the slider to the right side to extend it with unallocated space.
Step 6. At last, click on “Apply” to commit the pending operation.
See? Its “Move Partition” function can evade the limitation of Disk Management, helping you increase partition size in Windows Server 2008 (R2) successfully. If you want to make it much easier, you can upgrade to AOMEI Partition Assistant Server. This advanced tool offer more advanced features to extend partition size in all Windows PC and Windows Server. For example:
☞Merge Partitions: combine two adjacent partitions into one, or merge unallocated space into another drive.
☞Allocate Free Space: directly transfer unused space from one partition to another, such as from D to C.
So, to increase partition size in Windows Server 2008 or 2008 (R2), you can emply the Disk Management or AOMEI Partition Assistant Lite. Besides, the AOMEI Partition Assistant Server software can do more than adjusting partition size. It is also able to clone hard drive, clone partition, move Windows Server to new hard drive, align SSD partitions, wipe hard drive, secure erase SSD drive and so on.
