What is defragmentation?

For HDDs, defragmentation is very important. Traditional HDDs use spinning platters and a read/write head to access data. Method 1. Run 4K Alignment

Step 1. Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional. Right-click the partition that you want to align and select Advanced > Partition Alignment.

Step 2. In the popup window, choose “4096 Sector” or you can also set it to the default one. Click on “OK” to proceed.

Step 3. Finally, hit “Apply” on the upper left of the screen to start the alignment.

Method 2. Secure erase SSD

Securely erasing an SSD will wipe out all data, including residual fragments and traces of previous usage. This process essentially resets the drive, allowing it to operate at its optimal state and improving overall speed and responsiveness.

Notes: 1. It will erase all the SSD data. Please back up in advance if there is any important data. 2. This function is only supported in Windows 7 currently. Please connect the SSD to a computer running Windows 7.

Step 1. Launch the software, click “Wipe” at the top pane, and choose “SSD Secure Erase”.

Step 2. Select the SSD that you want to secure erase and click Next.

Step 3. Please check the SSD information in case of erasing the wrong hard disk because the data is unrecoverable after the erased.

Now, you will see the SSD is in a frozen state. To continue, you should perform a hot swap: 1. Find the SSD that needs secure erase from the computer host. 2. Unplug the power cable of the SSD and disconnect the SATA cable from the SSD. 3. Then reconnect the power cable and SATA cable to the SSD.

Step 4. Click “Next” to start the SSD Secure Erase.

Method 3. Migrate OS to a better SSD

Step 5. Click "Apply" to transfer Windows 10 to new PC.
